1. Who can apply to MAKÜ BAKA Technopark?

Firms conducting R&D and software projects can apply to MAKÜ BAKA Technopark.

2. How should an application be made to MAKÜ BAKA Teknokent?

Companies and Entrepreneurs who want to take place in MAKÜ BAKA Technopark need to follow the steps under the Applications title on the www.makuteknokent.com page to make their applications. Companies or Entrepreneurs who wish can visit the MAKÜ BAKA Technopark management to get information about the points to be considered in applications.

3. Are applications to Makü-Baka Teknokent paid?

No application fee is requested by MAKÜ BAKA Teknokent during the Project evaluation phase, except for the referee evaluation fee.

4. How are applications evaluated and accepted?

Applications are evaluated by a panel of three experts in the project activity area. The referees submit their evaluation reports for the approval of the MAKÜ BAKA Teknokent Yönetim A.Ş. Board of Directors. Based on the evaluation result of the panel and the decision of the Board of Directors, the company may be accepted to the Technopark, conditionally accepted, or the company's application to the Technopark may be rejected. The R&D quality of the projects is the primary reason for preference in the acceptance of companies to the Technopark.

5. Who are the members of the arbitration committee?

The arbitration committee consists of 3 experts in the field, including 2 academicians and 1 industry representative, who have signed a confidentiality agreement in the project activity area of the company/Entrepreneurs. In the event that an industry representative cannot be found in the project area, the 3rd member is also selected from academicians. Information about the members of the arbitration committee is not provided to the companies.

6. How long does it take for applications to be evaluated?

The evaluation of applications is a process of at most 30 days from the submission of the forms. Within this period, the entire process is completed and the decision of the Teknokent Management Board is communicated to the companies.

7. What happens if applications are not accepted?

There is no restriction preventing companies whose applications are not deemed appropriate from applying again.

8. Is it possible to make a reservation in advance for office spaces?

Reservation for office spaces is not possible before the application. However, allocation of space is made to companies whose applications have been accepted after the evaluation and acceptance process is completed.

9. How is the allocation of space made for accepted firms?

Allocation of space to companies is made according to criteria such as the R&D nature of the project, the added value it provides, and the level of cooperation with the university. In addition, the equipment to be used in the realization of the projects that the company will carry out at MAKÜ BAKA Teknokent and the necessary conditions for the execution of the project are also important during the allocation of space.

10. What are the features of the allocated offices?

Office spaces ready for operation with all communication, internet, and electricity infrastructures completed are allocated to the companies accepted into MAKÜ BAKA Technopark. If the company desires, after obtaining the necessary permissions from the Technopark management, it can have the interior furnishings of the office space done according to its own use, by committing to deliver the office as it was received. The changes to be made must be presented as a project to the Makü-Baka Technopark Management Company for approval.

11. What are the costs of the allocated offices?

Every year in April, office rent and operating fees are determined by the decision of the Teknokent General Assembly. Companies and entrepreneurs renting office space in the area are also required to contribute to the Teknokent operating expenses at a rate determined by the Teknokent board of directors. Operating expenses include costs related to common areas such as water, heating expenses, cleaning of parking areas and roads, common area security, common area cleaning, waste disposal, and pest control. The electricity and water consumption of the office area, as well as other services such as telephone and data, belong to the Company/Entrepreneur renting the office. 

12. If an office space cannot be allocated immediately after the application is concluded, what should be done?

After the application is concluded, in cases where an office space allocation cannot be immediately made in line with the company's requests, the company's request is ranked according to MAKÜ BAKA Teknokent evaluation criteria, and if there is a suitable office space option, the relevant company is allocated space. The criteria considered in the order of priority are, in order of importance, the R&D quality of the project, the university-industry collaboration used while carrying out the project, international collaborations, and collaborations among MAKÜ BAKA Teknokent companies.

13. For what duration are rental agreements made?

Rental agreements of firms are made for 1 year depending on the durations of the projects specified in the application forms. However, each project can operate within the Technopark for the duration specified in article 15, paragraph (g) of the Technopark implementation regulation.

14. What are the tax advantages provided under the Technology Development Zones Law?

Companies allowed to operate in the region are provided with certain tax exemptions under the Technology Development Zones Law. (i) The salaries of R&D personnel, research personnel, and software personnel working in the region are exempt from income tax until 31.12.2023. (ii) The income derived exclusively from R&D and software development activities conducted in the region is exempt from corporate tax (income tax for individuals) until 31.12.2023. (iii) During the period in which the earnings of entrepreneurs operating in the region are exempt from income or corporate tax, the delivery and services they produce in these regions in the form of system management, data management, business applications, sectoral, internet, mobile, and military command control application software are exempt from value-added tax.

15. How are tax exemptions audited?

The declarations regarding the tax exemptions of the companies operating in the region are under the audit responsibility of the Ministry of Finance Revenue Administration and the relevant Tax Office. General issues related to tax audit are valid within the activities in the region.

16. Is it mandatory for companies to collaborate with Makü, or to work jointly on projects with lecturers or students?

Since the main purpose of establishing the region is to strengthen university-industry collaboration in research and technology development projects, firms are expected to collaborate with the university.

17. How can university laboratories and research centers be utilized?

MAKÜ BAKA Teknokent firms have the opportunity to benefit from university laboratories and the existing research center under special conditions. Firms wishing to benefit from the laboratory and/or research center need to contact the relevant department head or research center directorate. In the process, if requested by the firm, MAKÜ BAKA Teknokent management also provides assistance.

18. What should companies that wish to work together with faculty members or staff do?

Companies wishing to collaborate with university faculty members on projects should contact the relevant department head to identify faculty members/staff working in their fields. Collaboration between faculty members/staff and MAKÜ BAKA Technopark companies on projects is only possible after obtaining approval from the university's board of directors. The Faculty Member/Staff Assignment Permission Letter must be submitted to the relevant Faculty Dean's Office to be presented for university approval. After the university's approval, the company is informed by the MAKÜ BAKA Technopark management about the assignment of the faculty member to the project.

19. Is it necessary to move the company headquarters to the region in order to start operations at Makü-Baka Technopark?

It is not mandatory for the company's headquarters to be in the region. However, the R&D and software office in the region must qualify as a "workplace" according to the Turkish Commercial Code. Companies whose headquarters are not within the borders of Burdur province are required to have their regional offices as branches to meet this condition.
